Breaking Waves Celebrates Return to The Leas Cliff Hall

The Folkestone Academy will be hosting their fifth annual Breaking Waves Dance Showcase next month with 15 schools from Folkestone, Canterbury, Ashford, Maidstone and Thanet taking part. The show returns to the Leas Cliff Hall on Wednesday 3rd May and guests will see a variety of performances from over 250 young people between 8 and 18 years old.

Following the success of last year’s show, the event has been kindly awarded a free day at the Leas Cliff Hall by Shepway District Council, allowing more people from the wider community to attend. All profits raised from the show will be donated to Shepway Youth Voices as part of an initiative to support young people in the community.

Patricia Cullen, Head of Dance at The Academy, has been organising the event over the past 6 months working with schools from all over East Kent.  The evening will combine all genres of dance including jazz, urban, commercial, lyrical and contemporary. This will be delivered as a collaborative event with confirmed secondary school performers from The Folkestone Academy; Dane Court Grammar School, Broadstairs; Brockhill Performing Arts College, Hythe; The Kings School, Canterbury; Aylesford Sports College; Highworth Grammar School, Ashford and Folkestone School for Girls

There are also performances by Sixth Form students from the Glassworks Sixth Form Centre and pupils from 4 Primary Schools, Folkestone Primary Academy; Greenfield’s Community Primary School, Maidstone and St Eanswythe’s CE Primary, Folkestone and St Peters Junior School, Broadstairs. Finally 3 dance schools are included Instep Dance Company, Studio Six and Julia’s School.

Patricia Cullen comments: “I’m so excited that Breaking Waves will be returning to the Leas Cliff Hall and I would like to personally thank Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee and Shepway District Council for organising this for us.  Having the show in this great venue allows us to expose more people to the high standard of dance we have in this area.  We will showcase the best of dance our young people have to offer, I’m very proud of what is to come!”

Tickets cost £6 for adults and £3.50 for concessions and children and can be purchased at the Leas Cliff Hall Box Office or calling 01303 228600 to reserve tickets. The performance will start at 6pm.
