Rugby Academy Students Appear on ‘Rugby Tonight’

A group of fortunate Rugby Academy students were given the opportunity to attend BT Sport’s TV show, ‘Rugby Tonight’. The live show was filmed on Wednesday 1st February at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and hosted by Craig Doyle, Lawrence Dallaglio (Wasps and England), Martin Bayfield (Northampton Saints and England) and Ugo Monye (Harlequins and England) along with special guest ex England captain Chris Robshaw.

On arriving at BT Sport HQ the team were whisked off for rehearsals led by Lawrence Dallaglio who explained exactly what demos would be taking place. The rugby forward students were asked to participate in a maul demo, whereby Chris Robshaw explained and demonstrated with the team alongside Lawrence.

The live show started at 8pm with some extremely nervous faces dressed in their new rugby kit. As a team we welcomed Chris Robshaw into the studio by forming a rugby tunnel and then moved around the studio, directed by the studio floor manager, appearing as the audience throughout the whole show. When the time came for the team to demonstrate the maul it was delivered with class and professionalism.

As the live show continued, the Rugby Academy students were divided into small groups which found them in almost every camera shot in their new bright orange kit. The show came to a close at 9.30pm and the team where offered photo opportunities with the rugby superstars.

Andrew Ballen, Rugby Academy Coach, accompanied the students on the visit and comments: “The whole experience will be remembered for a very long time by all the Folkestone Rugby Academy students. The chance to stand, not just in a room, but to have conversations with rugby superstars will not be forgotten. Congratulations to all students involved who represented Folkestone Rugby Academy with pride.”
