Non-Newtonian Fluid

In Science we have been learning about the three states of matter – solids, liquids and gases. Did you know that sometimes an object can take the form of two states? We explored this idea by making ooblek (or Non-Newtonian fluid to give it it’s scientific name!) We made our ooblek by mixing corn starch and water, we then added food colouring to make it look a little more interesting! When we touched the ooblek gently or moved it slowly, it behaved as a liquid - it ran through our hands and made a mess on the table! However, when we moved it quickly or hit it with force, it behaved as a solid – this meant that it was easy to tidy up the mess we had made! This was an exciting Science lesson and our favourite so far!
