Children work with Local Artist to Create Stained Glass Window

Pupils at the Folkestone Primary Academy have been working with local stained glass window artist, Nick Easthope of Easthope Studios, to create a bespoke stain glass window which was installed in the new Primary Academy’s Art room.

Pupils were invited to enter a drawing competition themed around the seasons and over 120 entries were received.  During August Mr Easthope selected the winning entries and created a ‘storyboard’ design with the four seasons.  He sourced special antique, hand blown glass for the tailor-made window. Once the window was completed Mr Easthope and his team installed the stained glass window in the Primary Academy watched by excited staff and pupils.

Miss Rosenwould, Art Leader at the Primary Academy, commissioned the window and organised for the winning pupils to visit Mr Easthope’s Stained Glass Studios in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter to see their designs come to life. She comments: “We are very grateful to Nick for his support and hard work.  The stained glass window is already helping inspire children’s work in our fantastic Art room.”

Miss Chantler, Head Teacher at the Folkestone Primary Academy, comments: “We have very creative and talented children in our school, and this project really captured their imagination. We are all thrilled with the result and we would like to thank Nick Easthope for his enthusiasm and the way he has ensured the children could be involved at every opportunity.”
